Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a way in which younger children at Sunday Mass can engage more fully in the readings and Gospel in a manner which is geared to their level of maturity and understanding.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word invites children up to second grade to temporarily leave the 9:30AM Sunday Mass and retire to the St. Joseph’s Room in the back of church along with a catechist to reflect on the readings commensurate with the child’s experience and knowledge.
Immediately after the Opening Prayer, the children will be asked to come forward with the catechist and receive the special children’s Lectionary. The children will experience the same Sunday readings with the exception that the readings are geared to their knowledge and vocabulary level. After instruction, the children join their class or family for the remainder of the Mass.
Any child second grade or younger is encouraged to partake in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
