FROM GRADE 7

November 4, 2007

During each of her apparitions at Fatima, Our Lady pleaded for the more frequent use of her beloved rosary.  She urged us to pray it, not just say it.  Grade 7 began the month with learning how to pray, not say the rosary.  In studying the four mysteries, we discovered ways to become closer to our Mother and through her intercession closer to the Father and Son.

We are well under way studying the Constitution of the United States of America.  We began learning how "WE THE PEOPLE" in the preamble of the Constitution must apply to all people, regardless of race, creed or religion.  It was then that we looked at how it affects the students in their daily lives and how to contact their senators and representatives on issues that concern them.  Currently we are studying the legislative branch and how bills become laws.

The customs of Halloween are thought to have been brought to America in the 1840's by Irish immigrants fleeing the "Great Potato Famine."  The class is looking at the history of Halloween followed with a look at some of the saints and how they have impacted the world.

In Science we have begun the "International System of Units" (SI).  In 1960 an improved version of the metric system was devised to be used as the standard system of measurement worldwide.  All SI standards are universally accepted and understood by scientists.  Students will be learning the standards, units and symbols used in SI.  They will also learn how to calculate and graph this information.

We are continuing our collection of pop-tops for the Ronald McDonald House.  So Far, we have collected almost five gallons worth to be donated to Loyola Hospital.

We would like to thank all of the St. Domitilla parishioners for their continued support and to let you know you are in our prayers.
