NEWS FROM GRADE THREE

December 16, 2007

We are grateful to Ms. Judith Schweikert, our former first grade teacher, who worked with us on a pumpkin art project.  It was great to have her visit us.

Also a special thank you to our custodian, Mr. Marian Karpinski, who helped make our Oktoberfest celebration so special.  Mr. Karpinski accompanied us on the accordion as we learned the "Schnitzelbank" song and danced the polka.

We are writing letters to our pen pals from St. Bruno School.  During the spring we hope to meet them on a field trip.

In order to learn our timetables, we are singing along with a tap tape entitled "Rapability."

Mrs. Popek, (mom of fourth grader Allison) is doing a terrific job with Junior Achievement.  We are making buildings and learning about the different city zones.  Soon we will learn about all the things involved in running a restaurant.

For the feast day of St. Nicholas, we celebrated with Mass and the blessing of candy canes.  Our own Alex Goodyear portrayed the bishop, St. Nicholas.

"It's A Small World" is the title of our Advent calendar.  We are learning about Christmas customs from around the world.

We celebrated Father Peter's 50th birthday at Mass on October 5th.  We honored Father by reciting the poem, "The Beautiful Hands of the Priest" and singing the traditional Polish Birthday song, "Sto Lat". We are grateful to our custodian, Mr. Marion Karpinski, for accompanying us on the accordion.

We are also grateful to Father Peter for his love and devotion to the St. Domitilla Parish Community.  As a remembrance of this special day, Father presented each student with a rosary and candy.  At the end of the day we celebrated with ice cream.

For Fire Prevention Week we read the book "Smokey the Bear"  and worked in groups to make fire safety posters.

In English we are reviewing the four types of sentences and we are using this knowledge to write descriptive sentences about Fall.

We are looking forward to seeing the play "Charlottes's Web" at Timothy Christian School on October 18th.
